This past Saturday, ATL Spurs spent a day with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity on one of their builds.
We started the misty morning meeting Catherine, the future homeowner. She told us about her children, a four-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son, and about how her little girl is very much looking forward to having her own room. Catherine is a bright, cheerful young woman, and has worked on every aspect of her home. On this particular Saturday, she hopped right up on the roof to get started. Her warm smile could be seen beaming across the lot all day.
With projects including cutting and installing siding, caulking, roofing, and interior framing, there were plenty of tasks to go around. It was an exciting day of hard work, laughter, and new friends. The atmosphere on the build site was one of teamwork and comraderie.
Thanks to Atlanta Habitat, her own hard work, and the work of community volunteers, Catherine and her family will move into their very first home in early December. As for your fellow ATL Spurs, we walked away at the end of the day with full hearts. Our few hours of hard work pays big toward Catherine’s house. She pays a 30-year, zero-interest mortgage as an Atlanta Habitat homeowner, and our work helps to reduce the cost of building her house. That makes her mortgage affordable and all of us proud! In fact, it was such a wonderful experience, that ATL Spurs will definitely be doing it again. I hope more of you can join us next time, because we truly got more than we gave out of this service project. COYS!!
