ATL Spurs Member Profile: Matt Edelstein
1) How did you become a Spurs fan?
I was doing ancestral research to learn about my great-grandmother’s family so that I could pick a EPL team with whom I could have a legitimate affiliation. Given that they were Jewish and lived in Spitalfields/Whitechapel and due to my friendship with Jim Hall, Spurs were the only clear choice.
2)Have you been to a match at White Hart Lane?
Unfortunately, no. But I am saving up to make another trip to London to see Spurs play in their new stadium.
3) What’s your favorite Tottenham Hotspur moment?
While in college, I got a copy of the 1991 FA cup semi-final vs. Arsenal. I think I watched Gascoigne’s free kick over and over until the tape broke.
4) Who is your favorite Spurs player and why?
Ossie Ardiles. Who else can pull off a wonder goal and a rainbow flick against the Nazis?
5) Where are you from originally?
I grew up in East Cobb but I am originally from Madison, Wisconsin.
6) What is your professional background?
I have been a social studies teacher for 18 years. I have taught AP and Honors World History and AP Psychology at Walton High School for the past 15.
7) Did you play organized football/soccer?
I played when I was a kid for a few years. I also played indoor soccer for the American Family Insurance company team when I worked for them while studying in Madison, WI.
8) What would your fellow Atlanta Spurs members be surprised to learn about you?
I am the “Mr. Edelstein” that is mentioned in the Aziz Ansari skit “F***ing with Harris on Facebook” on his first album, Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening. I taught both of his cousins, Darwish and Harris.
