Atlanta Spurs Supporters Club

As you should all know by now, ATL Spurs is participating in the annual Soccer in the Streets Charity Tournament on October 23. In addition to the $150 (or more) each individual player is raising, ATL Spurs will be making a donation to this worthy cause. How much you ask? Well, that’s up to you! Starting today, we’ll be selling raffle tickets at matches ($2 per ticket or 3 tickets for $5). The prize drawing will happen at the Tottenham v. Newcastle match on October 17. Tickets can be purchased with cash or via PayPal (ATL Spurs – atlantaspursclub@gmail.com). Our great prizes are pictured below.

Tottenham has already reached out to Supporter’s Clubs this year encouraging us to do community service, and asking us to inform them of service we’ve done. Two years ago, we were featured on the Tottenham Hotspur website for our work with Habitat for Humanity. Let’s make this year a year of service!

Also, we still have openings (especially for women) if you want to play! Information can be found here: ATL Spurs Soccer in the Streets.

Fellow ATL Spurs –

Y’all have done an admirable job thus far in donating toys for our Toys for Tots toy drive. This Saturday is the last day of our toy collection. I’d LOVE to see the box overflowing. Please bring a toy this Saturday to the Tottenham v. Stoke City game. Help ATL Spurs give back!

  • Attract new fans to Tottenham Hotspur

  • Design & Merchandising – Jordan Yoss
  • Ambassador-at-large – John Belfini

Note: Leadership committee was unanimously approved

Financial Report

  • ATL Spurs have approx. $1600 in the kitty
  • Because we do not have a membership fee, all ATL Spurs funds are raised through merchandise
  • Money in the ATL Spurs kitty is used for up-front costs for merchandise, club necessities like our two new flags, purchasing raffle prizes, charitable donations, Spurs supporters’ club dues, and THST dues
  • Last year’s charitable donations totaled $500
  • ATL Spurs books are open to all members. For detailed information, please contact Larry

Design and Merchandising

  • Last year’s t-shirts and scarves, featuring our new ATL Spurs logo, proved popular
  • We have a very small remaining inventory of scarves and shirts. We will have them at all games and they are available on our website at https://squareup.com/store/ATLSpurs/
  • We did a limited pre-order only run of kids’ shirts this year. Any future kids’ shirts would be done on an on-demand basis.
  • A bar flag and travel flag were commissioned this year. The bar flag hangs in Meehan’s and the travel flag has been seen in Orlando and Nashville.
  • A new shirt will be released this fall
  • If you have ideas for merchandise that you’d like to see offered, please contact Jordan

Community Outreach

  • Last November, ATL Spurs participated in a Habitat for Humanity build
  • Last May, ATL Spurs participated in fundraising for, and donated to, Soccer in the Streets
  • This year, we are looking to repeat both of those activities, in addition to some new opportunities
  • If you have ideas for community outreach projects, please contact Beth

2017/2018 Match Tickets

  • Michael provided a brief overview of the ticketing procedures at Wembley
  • Supporters Club sections were discussed

Meehan’s

  • This is our fifth season at Meehan’s
  • We continue to have a great relationship.
  • They open early for our matches, which we continue to appreciate
  • They have upgraded their tech, which should help with streaming next year

Other Business

  • We would like to update our website this year. If we have any club members who are web designers, please be in touch with a member of the board
  • We will release information when it is available on ATL Spurs engagement with Atlanta United – both for the ATL Spurs block of seats at Atlanta United, etc
  • Harold Summers offered his services as a photographer for any official ATL Spurs needs (events, merchandise photos, etc)
  • Next year’s meeting will be live-streamed on Facebook, for those who cannot attend
  • Lloyd’s Soccer in John’s Creek is carrying Tottenham gear

New Board Make-up (passed without objection)

  • Michael Constantinou, Chair
  • Matt Gragg, Vice-Chair
  • Larry Green, Treasurer
  • Beth Davis, Secretary
  • John Belfini, Community Outreach
  • Jordan Yoss, Design & Merchandise
  • Contact the board members at atlantaspursclub@gmail.com

Goals

  • Provide an inclusive community for local Spurs fans to meet online and in person
  • Attract new fans to Tottenham Hotspur
  • Community Outreach
  • Support the team and have fun!

Community Outreach

  • Our new Community Outreach Officer is planning a number of events for ATL Spurs this season
  • Tentative plans include Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army Angel Tree, among others
  • If you have ideas for community outreach, please be in touch with John.

Design and Merchandise

  • This year we introduce the new ATL Spurs Logo!
  • T-shirts were available this week for pre-order, but if you missed the deadline, a variety of sizes and colors will be for sale throughout the year at matches.
  • Additional items (scarves, new shirts, etc) will be available later in the year
  • If there is merchandise you’d like to see, please contact Jordan.

Trip to White Hart Lane

  • Because there will be high demand coupled with reduced capacity at White Hart Lane this year, the club cannot guarantee a large group of tickets.
  • This means that a group trip will be difficult, but we are exploring some additional options. Keep an eye out here for more information as it becomes available.
  • However, you can still try for tickets through the club as in previous years, if you are a Bronze or Lilywhite member.

Home Bar

  • Meehan’s @ Atlantic Station will be our home bar for the fourth year running
  • We plan to put up more decorations, to increase the homey feel of the pub. If you have anything you’d like to donate to decorate the bar, please let a board member know.
  • We’ll host watch parties at Meehan’s for both Champion’s and Premiere League games.

Website

  • We’ll be working this year to have a more active and dynamic website.
  • Changes will include: regularly updated calendar, member profiles, Spurs songs/chants, member submitted photos/videos from trips to the Lane and our home pub, articles about ATL Spurs community outreach, etc.
  • To that end, please send any photos/videos you take during the season to atlantaspursclub+content@gmail.com for inclusion on the website.

Chants

  • During the meeting, we received a question about the possibility of having someone lead chants at watch parties at Meehan’s.
  • We’ll be including more chants on the website, so that members can become more familiar with them.
  • If anyone wishes to volunteer to lead the chants, let us know.

Give-Away

  • Lastly, those who attended the AGM walked away with this limited edition vinyl decal!
  • Thank you for giving us a couple hours of your time on a non-game Saturday and COYS!!

A couple of exciting pieces of news…

First and foremost, we now have our own web store and it’s open for business! The site maintains a live inventory, so if you’re still in need of an ATL Spurs shirt, click on over to grab your size (hopefully in your preferred color choice).

https://squareup.com/store/ATLSpurs/

Second, we’re now offering the ATL Spurs shirts in kids sizes. The shirts are offered in the same American Apparel 50/50 shirts as the adult sizes, and available in both White and Navy. The corresponding size chart can be found on the new store. The kids shirts will cost $15 and ONLY be available on a preorder basis. We will not be printing any shirts over and above what’s preordered. The preorder period will remain open until November 6.

Operators are standing by. Not really.

ATL Spurs 3_rev fontAt today’s Annual General Meeting, the brand new ATL Spurs’ logo was unveiled! We are now happy to offer ATL Spurs t-shirts! Please pre-order your t-shirt(s)  by Thursday, July 28th.  This will net you a shirt by the opening game!

We’re offering white, navy, and heather grey shirts in both men’s and women’s cuts. We’ll soon be offering children’s/youth’s shirts. Keep an eye out here for more information.

Although you don’t have to pre-order to buy a shirt, pre-ordering is the only way to guarantee we’ll have your size in stock. And at just $20, these shirts are a steal!

We’re very excited to announce the release of a new ATL Spurs scarf! The scarf commemorates the final season at White Hart Lane and follows the color palette of this year’s home shirt. Scarves will be $20 each, and are available at games and our online store.

This past Saturday, ten ATL Spurs’ members put in a few community outreach hours with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity.

To start the day, we were introduced to the delightful future homeowner, learned about her work with MS patients, and heard about her vivacious eight-year-old son.  Thanks to Atlanta Habitat, her own hard work, and the work of community volunteers, her family will move into their very first home early in 2017.

With projects including interior painting, base trim installation, soffit fitting, and exterior painting, boredom was nowhere to be found. As a group, we worked hard and had fun doing it. A few of us even learned new skills – like how to use a nail gun!

The atmosphere on the build site was one of teamwork and comradery. We walked away at the end of the day with full hearts. In fact, it was such a wonderful experience, that ATL Spurs will definitely be doing it again.  I hope more of you can join us next time, because we truly got more than we gave out of this service project. COYS!!

We are honored to have two Tottenham legends joining us in Atlanta.

Recently named the 27th greatest Spurs player of all time, Steve Archibald joined the club in 1980 and played a significant part in one of the most successful periods in our history. Winning the English First Division Golden Boot in his first season with the club he would go on to score 77 goals in 185 appearances over four seasons helping the club to victory in back to back FA Cups (1980/81, 1981/82) and the UEFA Cup (1983/84). After four successful seasons at Tottenham, Steve joined Barcelona in 1984 where he would go on to win La Liga in 1984/85.

A combative, energetic, and creative midfielder, Edgar Davids was nicknamed “the Pitbull” by Louis van Gaal because of his marking ability and his aggressive tackling. After beginning his career with Ajax, Davids subsequently played in Italy for Milan and Juventus before a loan spell with Barcelona. He went on to play for Internazionale and then Tottenham Hotspur from 2005-2007, before returning to Ajax. Capped 74 times by Netherlands at the international level, he was named to the 1998 FIFA World Cup All-Star Team and is one of the players chosen by Pelé to feature in the FIFA 100, his list of the world’s greatest living footballers.

ATL Champions League

Former pros Steve Archibald, Edgar Davids, Julie Augustyniak Tuff and Blake Brettschneider, along with Walking Dead star Steven Yeun turn out for Tottenham Hotspur in the ATL Champions League.

Proceeds from all the events will benefit Soccer in the Streets, a local charity organization who have made it their mission to “empower underserved youth through soccer, character development, mentoring, and employability programs”. They do fantastic work in the community and we support their cause wholeheartedly.

After an exhaustive search evaluating pubs all over Metro Atlanta which also saw us hosting trial games at a number of potential venues, we are happy to finally announce that Atlanta Spurs has a new permanent home... Manny’s Grant Park!

The ownership and staff at Manny’s are super excited to partner with us to make Manny’s the go to destination for Spurs matches in Atlanta. We now look forward to decorating our new home, settling in, and getting back to the business of watching Spurs together.
This period of temporary homelessness has coincided with a downturn in fortunes on the field so we hope the opposite is now true and we look forward to seeing everybody this weekend to celebrate the start of better times ahead.
